About

While the dinosaur (a 50' replica) and caves are gone, there is much to explore at the picturesque Dinosaur Caves Park.

The 11-acre park is perched atop oceanfront bluffs with scenic views and wonderful amenities. The park's name is a tribute to its history, dating back to the 1940s when H. Douglas Brown built a 50-foot, steel-framed, concrete-plastered brontosaurus.

Brown aimed to lure visitors to his souvenir shop since the monstrosity could be seen from the highway. However, neighbors protested to the city about the tacky structure, and by 1964, the dinosaur was no more. Additionally, the sea caves collapsed and became impassable, ending the era.

Despite these setbacks, the park evolved into a beloved community space. It offers grassy areas, an imaginative dinosaur-themed playground, and panoramic views of the rugged coastline. And with the park's proximity to landmarks like the Spyglass Beach Tide Pools, combining multiple attractions into one day is easy.

The park's design enhances its natural surroundings, with the inclusion of native plants, landscaped gardens, and art installations.

Whether looking for a peaceful retreat or an adventurous outing in Pismo Beach, Dinosaur Caves Park offers a unique blend of natural beauty, historical intrigue, and recreational fun.
