About

In the heart of Big Bear is the iconic Teddy Bear Restaurant, a log cabin eatery that has been dishing out homestyle eats for 63 years. It's a dining spot that's a must-visit when vacationing in the area.

Opened in 1944 by Eddie and Wilma Wingard, this quaint restaurant specializes in homestyle cooking and made-from-scratch pies. Sold to the Schweitzer family in 1991, the Teddy Bear Restaurant continues to delight patrons with American classics with a twist.

Located near The Village Shops and Courtyard, many find the proximity to area attractions and landmarks convenient when planning one's itinerary. Early birds can fuel up with a hearty breakfast before hiking the Castle Rock Trail, while skiers and snowboarders at Snow Summit can dine after sunset.

The menu features classic American favorites, like their signature steak sandwich with melted cheese and grilled onions. For the ultimate comfort food, nothing tastes better than macaroni and cheese topped with bacon bits.

So, whatever you're craving, the Teddy Bear Restaurant will satisfy you on your Big Bear vacation!

Vibe

The nostalgic log exterior blends with Big Bear Lake's surroundings and reminds us that "if it isn't broke, don't fix it."

While the owners have renovated the interior over time, it still retains its original charm. The wooden ceiling with industrial fans and lights connects the area's natural beauty with a modern touch. Picture windows let natural light warm the room and give diners unobstructed views.

The dining area is small, but the space is utilized fully. Tables dot the floor, while the curved countertop has bar stools for solo diners. The vibe is charming and homey, where everyone feels like family. In 1994, the owners added the back patio, offering al fresco dining during warmer seasons.

With its inviting atmosphere, laid-back vibe, and delicious food, this restaurant will surely be a hit for any occasion!

Teddy Bear Restaurant: Menu & Drinks

Only a few businesses can say they've been in business for over 50 years. This eatery can make that claim, realizing that its homestyle food and kind service have made it successful.

With one bite, you'll understand why. The soups, chili, and machaca are original Teddy Bear recipes. Instead of cutting corners or relying on mass-produced products, they make everything from scratch and bake their bread.

Breakfast is served all day and features egg favorites, pancakes and waffles, machaca, and breakfast burritos. Healthy options like oatmeal and granola are also available.

The burgers are another top pick with diners and come with a housemade white bun. These handhelds feature 1/3 lb of Angus beef that's hand-pressed and cooked to your liking. Creative choices include the Cuban Burger and the Pastrami, which diners can customize with the various sides and condiments.

After a day of exhausting fun at Big Bear Snow Play, head to Teddy Bear to refuel with a homestyle dinner. Every meal includes cornbread, French fries, baked or mashed potatoes, and soup or salad. One classic is the homemade chicken pot pies made from scratch and baked fresh daily. With a creamy broth, chunks of juicy chicken, and a flaky crust, you'll be in comfort food heaven!
