About

While you can read the "About" of June Coffee on its website, the story has roots in Vietnam and Portland, Oregon.

The founder of this up-and-coming coffee house is Jimmy Truong. The son of Vietnamese immigrants, he fell in love with small businesses, watching his parents create salon businesses with little capital and loads of sweat equity.

But Jimmy's goal was to become an art teacher. So, to help pay his way, he got into coffee. In so doing, his passion for art faded as a calling into the service industry blossomed.

With his life and heart set on a new course, he headed to Portland, Oregon, in 2014, where he worked in a coffee shop. Here, he had an epiphany after serving a customer. The serendipitous moment confirmed what he'd sensed brewing deep within for some time: he would focus on the coffee industry.

Truong moved back to Birmingham to work at Octane in 2016. When the company got bought out, it was the kick out of the nest he needed to open his place.

Raising support and funding himself, Jimmy launched Epilogue Coffee Roasters in 2018. Truong hit the ground running with his solid connections with local eateries like Automatic Seafood & Oysters, dispensing his beans to Birmingham's top restaurants. With the success of his roasting company, he took the next step, opening his brick-and-mortar in June 2022.

June is celebrated for its creative coffees and non-coffee drinks. Toss in the freshly baked goods, and it has become a beacon for Java lovers.

With its early hours and daily operation, it's a must-stop before a day of sightseeing to nearby attractions. Grab a latte before hitting the farmers market at The Market at Pepper Place or visiting the Vulcan Park and Museum.

Vibe

The coffee shop is in a downtown renovated brick building, formerly a woodworking shop. Contractors installed tall windows and incorporated refurbished wood from the former shop into the remodel.

The interior features a vaulted ceiling with exposed ductwork and a barista bar fashioned from clay-red brick.

Contemporary tables and chairs dot the stained concrete floor, while exposed brick walls display bags of beans and other goodies.

The outdoor seating beside the cafe offers picnic tables to enjoy your coffee on a sunny day.

The free Wi-Fi will appeal to business travelers or people who need to surf the web while enjoying a beverage.

Whether for your morning Joe or a place to unwind, the ambiance at June Coffee complements a Birmingham vacation.

Another favorite is the S'mores Cortado, which is like Christmas in a cup! It features Graham cracker oak milk, cinnamon syrup, cinnamon sugar dusting, and bruleed marshmallows.

The baked goods showcase the wonders of the season, with pumpkin-infused treats in the fall being irresistible.

The Iced Latte is another highly recommended choice for those who enjoy iced drinks. Made with precision and care, it balances strong coffee with creamy milk, offering a refreshing pick-me-up on warmer days.
