About

Through several serendipitous events, Nashville musician Gabe Scott found himself in the hospitality business. Marrying a Texas gal was one; honoring his grandmother's cooking was another; craving breakfast tacos became the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. Ladybird Taco is the fusion of these life happenings, culminating in Gabe opening two locations in Nashville.

With the success of his Music City eateries, Gabe and his Austin team set their sights on Magic City and, in 2023, opened the Mountain Brook location.

But this is more than another trendy taco place. Like the taquerias in Austin that inspired it, Ladybird was designed to bring people together and foster the community. Even its name alludes to this passion, honoring Texas native Lady Bird Johnson, the First Lady of the United States from 1963-1969.

A go-to spot for hearty breakfasts or laid-back lunches, Ladybird Taco serves Austin, Texas's adventurous and diverse cuisine. It's where Southern charm meets Tex-Mex excellence.

With recipes crafted to satisfy meat lovers and vegetarians alike, there's something for everyone. Their breakfast tacos draw crowds early, featuring scrambled eggs, sharp cheddar, perfectly seasoned chorizo, and fresh tortillas.

The Mountain Brook location puts it close to landmarks like the Birmingham Botanical Garden and Vulcan Park and Museum. Such convenience makes it easy to grab a breakfast burrito before a day of exploration on your Birmingham vacation.

Vibe

The red brick exterior blends with area businesses, adding to the aesthetic of the neighborhood.

Also, with the guidance of the Design Review Board, street signs are not permitted, and only the "Ladybird Taco" is embedded on the facade.

Such minimalistic features make for clean architectural lines and don't detract from the area's beauty.

Large windows bathe the interior with natural light, while patio seating invites guests to engage, linger, and socialize.

Inside, the industrial modern decor displays polished concrete floors, rustic wooden accents, exposed ceilings, and tile work. Large communal tables and cozier options will appeal to various diners while the aromas from the open kitchen drift into the dining area.

The relaxing ambiance makes Ladybird Taco a great stop, whether fueling for a day of sightseeing or chilling with an afternoon bite.

Ladybird Taco: Menu & Drinks

Unlike most taco places catering to lunch and dinner crowds, this Birmingham eatery has its eye set on delivering hearty breakfasts.

Grab a chorizo, egg, and cheese taco before your tee time at a Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail course. And if you're famished and pressed for time, order a bag full and mix it up. Order the potato, egg, and cheese taco or the vegetarian Migas with egg, house-made chips, avocado, cheese, green onion, and pico. And don't worry, there are bacon tacos, too!

Lunchtime brings in the heavy hitters with Texas-style brisket, roja pork, and plenty of vegetarian options. The add-ons enable you to customize your meal, offering endless possibilities.

And if you're not craving tacos (which seems crazy!), the salad options are delicious. The City Slicker features spring mix, chopped bacon, cotija, pico de gallo, avocado, corn tortilla strips, and cilantro dressing on the side. The Farmer has spring mix, marinated corn, black beans, pico de gallo, sweet potato, pepitas, queso fresco, and cabbage, with lime jalapeno dressing on the side. Add a protein for an additional cost.

While Ladybird is in the process of being able to serve alcohol, its current beverages will satisfy any thirst. The coffees are noteworthy, with everything from specialty lattes to brewed and espresso favorites.

After a day at Oak Mountain State Park, house-made cold drinks like limeade, hibiscus tea, and watermelon agua fresca will quench your thirst.

Adding Ladybird Taco to your Iron City itinerary promises a taste of Texas on your Alabama getaway.
