About

Since 2000, The Market at Pepper Place has been Birmingham’s premier spot for farm-fresh vegetables, homemade baked goods, candles, soaps, and so much more!

The farmers market is held every Saturday, rain or shine, at Pepper Place, the former Dr. Pepper Syrup Plant and Martin Biscuit Company.

Sloss Real Estate is the visionary in reimagining these historic buildings. In the 1980s, they transformed the 350,000 square feet of warehouses into a thriving retail and cultural hotspot.

Such renovations enabled the modest event to grow into Alabama’s go-to farmers market. Today, there are over 100 vendors showcasing produce, meats, dairy products, artisan baked goods, crafts, and more! When it’s the most popular in the fall, there can be over 10,000 visitors on a single Saturday!

Aside from the sweets, goodies, and home goods, folks love visiting for entertainment. It’s not unusual to see a band underneath a warehouse awning cranking out blues or chefs giving cooking demos indoors. Every weekend features a different artist and event, making each Saturday sparkle with excitement.

Pepper Place is near landmarks like Regions Field, home to the Birmingham Barons Baseball Club. Such convenience allows you to combine a day of shopping at the market with a ball game afterward.

Add The Market at Pepper Place to your itinerary when you need a family-friendly, outdoor activity that involves homemade goods, organic produce, and music.

The Market at Pepper Place: Fun Facts & Cool Features

The atmosphere at this weekly farmers market is electric! The restored brick facades of the Dr. Pepper Syrup Plant, the sound of blues, folk, and jazz music, and the scent of artisan coffee, bagels, and homemade sundries make it a carnival-like experience.

Even more impressive is that the transformation of this space sparked Birmingham’s downtown revival. For instance, the nearby Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark is a treasure trove of history and one of Birmingham’s premier outdoor concert and event locations.

Adding to these standouts is that The Market has strict guidelines regarding who can be a vendor. Registration for the upcoming season takes place each September; after that, it is closed. Only Alabama-made or grown products or goods are permitted, and franchises, boutiques, and reselling aren’t allowed. Such scrutiny raises the bar in quality at the farmers market, ensuring you’re getting fresh, local, high-quality products.

Another reason people come back week after week is the live music. On any given Saturday, you may hear solo artists, folk groups, blues and jazz quartets, and indie groups.

The farmers market is dog-friendly, as long as dogs are on a leash. Watching the various four-legged pets and their owners meander about adds the perfect touch to this farm-centric event.

While there are plenty of snacks, drinks, and food options at Pepper Place Market, nearby restaurants are never far away. Automatic Seafood & Oysters and Birmingham Wings & Waffles are but a few blocks away, while other choices are a short drive.

So, grab your crew, leash the dog, and head to The Market at Pepper Place to discover the freshest and best of Alabama.
