About

Taqueria El Paisa is in the Centro part of San José del Cabo, serving fresh, authentic cuisine. Its low-key contemporary setting is perfect for relaxing after lessons with Del Cabo Surf or refueling from a fun-filled day at Costa Azul Beach.

This taqueria is known for its mouthwatering carne asada and al pastor, which you'll see slow-turning on a spit when you enter. The savory aroma of meat and onions rising from the grill is your clue that El Paisa is the Real McCoy!

The eatery is dedicated to quality and authentic flavors, making it a hotspot for locals. Over the years, it's evolved into a go-to for anyone craving authentic Mexican fare.

Its central location makes combining a meal with any sightseeing agenda easy. For instance, you could visit Plaza Mijares and Misión San José del Cabo and then walk to El Paisa for lunch or dinner. Because it's open most evenings until 1 AM, tacos are readily available whenever you get hungry!

With its fresh ingredients and mouthwatering entrees, Taqueria El Paisa will delight the senses.

Vibe

With its open concept, chances are you'll catch a whiff of delicious food long before seeing it. The exterior signage is simple, contemporary, and sets the stage for a memorable meal.

Inside is a cozy, no-frills space with rustic wooden tables and chairs. The decor is understated but full of character, with colorful Mexican tile work and a few neon signs. The mood is homey with a contemporary feel.

The open-air concept, along with a bustling dining crowd, brings energy to the room. Add in the street noise and music from nearby bars, and this place is hopping, especially as the evening rolls along. But the mood never gets inappropriate for those traveling with children.

For these reasons, El Paisa is an ideal destination during your Los Cabos vacation.

Taqueria El Paisa: Menu & Drinks

While tacos are the star of the show, there are unique entrees like the papa rellena, featuring a baked potato stuffed with juicy, flavorful meat. It comes with fresh guacamole and pico de gallo, making for a filling meal.

The Taco Macho is another crowd-pleaser with perfectly seasoned carne asada and loads of fresh toppings. And if you're famished, try the chorreada. This handheld showcases a handmade tortilla with lots of meat and melted cheese, making it a must-try.

The aforementioned al pastor is another winner. The slow-cooked pork with pineapple juice rests atop fresh tortillas with fresh onions and cilantro. A dollop of red salsa adds the right amount of heat that unifies the flavors and textures.

Overshadowing the al pastor are the carne asada tacos. The marinade adds rich flavor to the steak without overcooking, making the tacos juicy, tender, and flavorful. Fresh onions and cilantro round off this simple yet profound taste sensation.

When it comes to drinks, they've got you covered. Their aguas frescas are made with fresh fruits and are perfect for cooling off. For a sweet beverage, the creamy, cinnamon-spiced horchata is always a good choice. If you're in the mood for something stronger, their margaritas—made with local tequila and fresh lime—are a hit. All the drinks pair well with any of the menu items.

Dining at Taqueria El Paisa offers food that is bold and authentic in a warm atmosphere, promising to be a highlight of any trip to San José del Cabo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Los Cabos is the name of the municipality at the southern tip of Baja California Sur. This includes the municipal seat of San José del Cabo, where the international airport is located, as well as lively Cabo San Lucas. The eastern part of the municipality, East Cape (Cabo del Este) is situated between the Gulf of California and the Laguna Sierra range.

Certain beaches in Los Cabos provide terrific spots for swimming or snorkeling, though strong wave action along much of the coast is more apt for surfers. Medano Beach in the center of Cabo San Lucas offers calmer waters, or take a boat to Lovers’ Beach on the way to the Arch to enjoy calmer waters. Near San José del Cabo, Playa Palmilla features the most swimmable option for many.

Los Cabos has some of the best surf breaks in Mexico. While the area has welcome surf spots year-round, the peak surf season is from May through October. Intermediate and advanced surfers can expect larger and warmer waves at spots including Monuments, Cerritos and Zippers. From November to April, Costa Azul and La Playita have smaller and cooler waves, which are just right for those signing up for a surf lesson to catch a Cabo wave.

If you want to be central to all the shops, restaurants, and action in Cabo, we recommend staying in the Medano area (Downtown).

We recommend staying near Zona Hotelera if you want convenience and centrality to all the action!
