About

With five locations on the Oregon Coast, Pelican Brewing is your go-to for elevated pub fare and award-winning craft beer.

The Siletz Bay and Pacific City locations are on the Central Oregon Coast, while Rockaway Beach, Cannon Beach, and Tillamook are on the North Oregon Coast. While each has its own vibe, they all serve similar fare, beer, and craft sodas.

Pelican Brewing started as an idea shared by Jeff Schons, Mary Jones, and Darron Welch. They set out to create world-class beer, and in 1996, the first Pelican Brewing brewpub opened in Pacific City, making it the first oceanside brewery in Oregon.

Brewmaster Darron Welch brought passion and skill to the brewing process. His drive to experiment and improve helped Pelican offer a range of balanced, distinctive, and true-to-style beers.

Over time, Pelican Brewing has grown to keep up with higher demand. In 2013, a new brewery and taproom opened in Tillamook, making it possible to sip a brew after (or before!) sampling treats at Tillamook Creamery.

Another brewpub opened at Cannon Beach in 2016, bringing its popular food and beer to the area known for Haystack Rock and the Cannon Beach Bunnies.

The latest member of the family is in Siletz Bay, which opened in Lincoln City in 2020. Now you can plan a meal after a day of creating blown glass at the Lincoln City Glass Center.

Like DNA, each spot showcases Pelican's original value of doing everything "unerringly well," making it a go-to when on the Oregon Coast.

Vibe

While space limits us from describing each location, like brothers and sisters, they are true to their heritage, yet have personalities uniquely their own.

We'll focus on the flagship location in Pacific City that inspired its moniker, "Born at the Beach." Its exterior blends classic coastal style with weathered wood siding and big windows, letting in plenty of light and views. As Oregon's first beachside brewpub, it's the perfect stop when driving the Three Capes Scenic Loop, offering views of Haystack Rock.

The interior is both warm and inviting, with exposed wooden beams crisscrossing the ceiling, polished concrete floors, and glass panels that make the brewing equipment part of the scenery.

Dining areas include cozy booths, classic tables, or the bar's laid-back vibe. When the sun is shining, the outdoor patiodraws the biggest crowd with your meal steps from the sand.

The relaxed atmosphere makes it a perfect fit for an Oregon vacation.

Pelican Brewing: Menu & Drinks

Kickstart your dining adventure with a cup or bowl of the award-winning clam chowder. This hearty appetizer features fresh clams, crisp bacon, and potatoes. It's a comfort food of the Central Oregon Coast that never disappoints!

The Beer Sausage is a signature flatbread at Pelican. It starts with fresh-made dough, topped with fresh tomato sauce, roasted tomatoes, ricotta, parmesan, and roasted wild mushrooms. But the pinnacle is the sausage made with Sea'N Red Ale topped with fresh herbs. The flavors and textures unite in a tour de force that your palate will not soon forget.

Pelican's Fish and Chips is another standout featuring three pieces of wild-caught Pacific Cod. The fish is lightly breaded with Kiwanda and panko and fried to a golden brown. Add the beer-battered fries, coconut pineapple, coleslaw, and house-made tartar sauce, and you have a winner of a meal!

Also noteworthy are the salads, pasta options, burgers, and sandwiches. With so much variety, even your pickiest eater will find something they'll enjoy.

Naturally, the craft beer takes center stage. From hard hops and sparkle hops to year-round classics and newcomers, there's a brew for every palate. The barrel-aged collection adds yet another layer to this impressive lineup, while the craft sodas mean the kids won't feel left out!

A meal at Pelican Brewing brings every part of a Central Oregon Coast visit to life. The experience is pure Oregon—flavor, views, and community woven together for vacation memories that stand out.

Frequently Asked Questions

The high season along the Central Oregon Coast is from late spring to early fall (May – September). Just as spring starts, as well as at the end of fall, visitors can enjoy mild weather and fewer crowds, along with clear, beautiful days. Winter is the slower season for Oregon’s coastal communities, with crisp days and a unique serenity all its own. Winters also typically tend to be rainier.

Highway 101, also known as the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway, stretches over 360 miles along Oregon’s rugged and inspiring coastline. With several pull-offs along the way, you can readily take in Oregon’s towering pines, coastal views, lighthouses, and incredible overlooks. Some of the most popular sites on Oregon’s central coast include:

  • Tillamook Coast: Start with a trip to the Creamery and then follow the Three Capes Scenic Loop to Cape Meares, Cape Lookout, and Cape Kiwanda
  • Depoe Bay – Otherwise known as the whale-watching capital of Oregon
  • Devils Punchbowl State Natural Area
  • The iconic Heceta Head lighthouse between Florence and Yachats

Oregon’s coast is a privileged location to spot whales on their biannual migration between the cooler waters of Alaska and Canada and warmer ocean temps in Mexico. In the winter, mid-December through mid-January are key whale-watching times along Oregon’s coast. Spring watchings tend to start in mid to late March and can last through early June. In addition, there are even resident whales that can often be spotted throughout the summer and fall. Depoe Bay is a hot spot for whale watching along Oregon’s coast.

Though still considered part of Oregon’s northern coast, Cannon Beach is a great beach for families as it offers tide pool exploration, terrific sand for sand castles, and the iconic Haystack Rock. Continuing along the coast, families will find fantastic kite-flying opportunities along expansive beaches near Manzanita. Rockaway Beach is also known for its family-friendly atmosphere, while Lincoln City offers over 7 miles of beaches. It’s worth adding that all beaches in Oregon are public, and there are plenty of access points at popular spots.
