Welcome to

Dillon

Dillon is about 70 miles west of Denver, which puts it close to area ski resorts. The city was once a stage stop and later a trading post along the Snake River. The development of the town took time, but the building of the Dillon Reservoir nearby helped to make the area what it is today. The freshwater reservoir provides water for the city of Denver and the surrounding communities and holds 257,304 acre-feet of water. In fact, Dillon’s main attraction is the deep-water marina. It’s located right on the waterfront and provides boat rentals, sup and kayak rentals, and more.

The area of Dillon comes to life in the winter months. Because the region is close to seven ski resorts that are quite popular, including the Keystone Ski Resort, the largest tourism destination in the region, much of the area is dependent on tourism. The reservoir is also used during the winter months for both ice fishing and snowmobiling. Dillon sees around 127 inches of snow each year, but that does not stop the region from enjoying lots of fun.

During the warmer months, the reservoir serves as an important location for activities including fishing, sailing, and water sports, with the Dillon Marina providing direct access. With rainbow trout being a favorite here and kept stocked by the Colorado Division of Wildlife, it is the ideal place for those who want to get away for a fishing trip. There are plenty of rental services in the area to help make that possible.

From the hiking trails to the historic charm of this community, Dillon offers something for all visitors. The cities of Frisco and Silverthorne are also nearby, all of which surround the reservoir and provide direct access to the region’s amenities.

The town of Dillon, Colorado is quite small itself though part of the Breckenridge Micropolitan area, which places it close to a wide range of local amenities and the beautiful outdoors. With 200 miles of hiking trails, the park system here is outstanding.
