About

The Oasis on Lake Travis is an absolute must when visiting Highland Lakes, Texas. This stunning location is located right on the shore of Lake Travis and offers a sunset view unlike anywhere else in the region.

I love visiting for several reasons.

First, the food is exceptional. The Mexican menu is huge and bursting with flavorful dishes. Everything I have had here has been outstanding. I also love that there are several bars and shops around it. It’s easy to spend a few hours in this area just taking in all of the sights (not to mention the impressive views).

And can I just say there’s no better view of Lake Travis from this location? That’s because it has three stories, each with a balcony that overlooks the waterfront. Plan to be there for a couple of hours.

If you want to watch the sunset, it’s worth the wait for a spot. If not, go for a mid-day drink and meal. Also, it’s an excellent way to spend some time in between shops.

Still, you’ll want to give yourself some time here. It’s the type of place to come for a long drink, a great meal, and chatty with friends. I was there for about two hours last visit because it’s just such a welcoming place to be.

Vibe

The Oasis on Lake Travis really is its own thing. I love to visit with friends, enjoy a few drinks, and have a fantastic meal as we watch the sunset. It’s an eclectic space decorated with lots of colors and true Mexican cultural elements. It’s a fun location, for sure.

This place is huge, and that means there are a lot of people. It’s great for families of all ages and every group in between.

The architecture is so impressive, with a full wall of arched windows and open spaces that look over the lake. And if you’re able to climb some stairs, head up to one of the top floors or the higher patios. That’s going to give you an even more impressive view.

The Oasis On Lake Travis: Menu & Drinks

The menu here is packed, and it’s really hard to go wrong.

I started out with a frozen margarita. They have a number of different flavor options. I had a little Marnier float to the drink. So good. There are dozens of cocktails on the menu. Ask for recommendations.

For an appetizer, go with the guacamole. It’s freshly made and has a nice zing to it.

As for other foods, they offer burgers, sandwiches, as well as numerous other dishes. I enjoy the fajitas (the combo gets you beef, chicken, and shrimp, and that’s my favorite). And my friend had the Chipotle Baby Back Ribs with sweet potato fries. Other options include the Steak Tampiqena, Grilled Shrimp Diablo (super spicy), and the Smoked Chicken Enchilada Stack.

Also, the menu late at night is a bit more limited, with just burgers and sandwiches, which is perfect for when you need to sober up a bit!

Local Tips

  • Plan to be there at least an hour or so before sunset since the area does tend to be busy. It’s worth the wait.
  • If you’re one of the many people that like to go bar hopping, there are several within walking distance of The Oasis. And there’s a parking garage nearby, so you don’t have to worry about paying to park numerous times.
  • It’s busy throughout the week, especially when the weather is good, and sometimes it’s packed.
  • There are times when private events are taking place, and that can make it a bit overcrowded, but still, an opportunity to have fun.
  • They do not take reservations—which means that even as big as this location is, you may have to wait. However, they have seating available for up to 2,500 people at once (it’s that huge), so you really aren’t going to have to worry too much!
