Holden Beach is a popular drive-to destination, as it is just about an hour from either Wilmington, NC or Myrtle Beach, SC by taking US-17 toward Shallotte and then Southeast to the Holden Beach Bridge.   • Be sure to take any beach equipment with you at the end of a sun-soaked day. Any beach gear left unattended between 6 p.m. – 7 a.m. is subject to removal.
  • Surfboards can’t be used, wheeled, or carried on the beach strand within 500 feet of fishing piers.
  • During peak season (from mid-May to early September), pets are not allowed on the beach except from 5 p.m. – 9 a.m. Pets must always be on a leash when on the island.
  • Public vehicles are not allowed on the beach
