About

While seafood restaurants are abundant on the OBX, only one offers an upscale setting, water views, and multiple seating options. This eatery is, of course, The Oyster Rock Waterfront Seafood.

Set by the Calabash River, this family-owned and operated hot spot is scenic and features a diverse menu. While fresh oysters and seafood are the main attraction, you’ll also find charcuterie boards, inventive salads, and handhelds like burgers and tacos.

While the food is exemplary, the setting is divine. The main dining room is on a knoll overlooking the river with an expansive deck for al fresco dining. Follow this pathway to the water and you’ll find another structure: the Oyster Pit. Hugging the shoreline, this dining area has an abundance of covered dining spots. The railing that runs parallel to the water is the coveted place to dine. Here, the Calabash River is inches away, offering a unique waterfront experience as boats cruise past.

While suitable for a romantic meal or with a group of friends, The Oyster Rock is family-friendly. This aspect will appeal to those traveling with children and looking for a delicious meal after a day playing at The Swamp Park.

The restaurant is also close to other attractions like Silver Coast Winery and Sunset Beach Fishing Pier. Such convenience makes planning an itinerary centered around a meal at this eatery easy-peasy.

Just forty minutes from Holden Beach, The Oyster Rock Waterfront Seafood is worth the drive. Here, breathtaking water views, stellar seafood, and its unique ambiance await.

Vibe

The building sits right on the river, offering sparkling water views paired with crisp, modern lines and an easy-going coastal design. Notably, the facility underwent renovations in 2024, adding freshness to its already appealing aesthetics.

The interior features wood-paneled walls, while the exposed wood ceiling with white arches adds depth to the space. Picture windows allow light and ample views of the Calabash River, ensuring there’s not a bad seat in the house.

As mentioned, the coveted dining spots are the covered porch, the umbrella-covered tables, or down at the Oyster Pit. Like the Yellow Brick Road, the wooden boardwalk flows to these areas where palms, outdoor lighting, and river views abound.

The Oyster Rock Waterfront Seafood: Menu & Drinks

Start your epicurean adventure with the fried pickles. Listed on the menu as You’re In A Real Pickle Now, this Southern staple features Mount Olive dill pickle chips with house-made ranch dipping sauce.

The Board Meeting is a gourmet charcuterie board for two, and comes with a wide selection of cheeses, meats, and accompaniments. The Board Meeting pairs with any of the assorted wines and beers at the restaurant.

Now, on to the seafood! Calabash is renowned for its style of cooking seafood, so “when in Rome,” consider the Calabash Boil. This Lowcountry classic features seasoned peel-and-eat Carolina shrimp, tender snow crab clusters, corn on the cob, red bliss potatoes, and kielbasa sausage. Add the cocktail sauce, lemons, hot sauce, and melted butter, and this feast will satisfy the most ravenous appetites.

Naturally, raw and steamed oysters are available, along with various shrimp combinations. Another must-try is the Calabash-style fried seafood with your choice of flounder, shrimp, oysters, or scallops. It comes with house-made hushpuppies, Carolina chopped slaw, and seasoned fries. Not a fan of fried food? Then order the meal blackened or broiled with wine, butter, and seasonings.

The Main Plates offer yet another level of enjoyment. Options range from scallops and shrimp scampi to pork chops, chicken, and steak dinners. Each plate comes with your choice of sides, making for an enjoyable yet filling meal.

Aside from the beer and wine, craft cocktails abound. A prime example is the Cadillac-A-Rita featuring Weldon Mills Sabrosa Tequila, Cointreau Orange Liqueur, sours, and a tableside Grand Marnier floater.

The Oyster Rock Waterfront Seafood is a must-visit on your Outer Banks vacation. It offers the complete package of stellar seafood and picturesque settings and views.
