About

Perched along the Shallotte River is a golfer's paradise known as the River's Edge Golf Club. Designed by golf legend Arnold Palmer, the course brings his vision to life, delivering both a memorable and rewarding game.

Since opening its doors in 1999, it has earned a reputation as one of North Carolina's top courses. Palmer poured his attention into blending the area's natural scenery with a strategic layout. Such thoughtful design has earned it a spot on Golf Digest's list of "America's 100 Greatest Public Courses."

The land's subtle elevation changes and sweeping water views add excitement to every hole. Palmer's style is easy to spot: nature and design work together, making for a course that challenges, impresses, and fits the landscape.

The course offers two very different sets of nine holes. Up front, golfers weave through pines and past freshwater lakes, which demand accuracy and forethought. On the back nine, holes hug the Shallotte River, where several fairways and greens play right up to the water.

Additionally, the course is near other landmarks, making it easy to combine attractions for a diverse sightseeing itinerary. For example, after golfing, visit Silver Coast Winery and sample local wines. Or while you're on the fairways, the rest of the family could zipline at The Swamp Park. With so much to see and do, the possibilities are endless!

River's Edge Golf Club: Fun Facts & Cool Features

As an Arnold Palmer Signature Course, six holes play alongside the Shallotte River. Such a design offers water views and will challenge you to keep shots out of the marsh. The ever-present coastal breeze adds yet another layer of challenge, making each round different from the last.

Variety is the course's calling card. No two holes play the same, with everything from tree-lined fairways to sandy waste bunkers. The course features Paspalum grass, a choice that thrives in the salty coastal air and creates smooth putting surfaces. Consistency on the greens is a big plus, especially when they roll fast and have plenty of slope.

One hole that is revered and feared is the 9th, dubbed "Arnie's Revenge." The par-5 fairway calls for a carry over a large lake with no room for error, making it a highlight for risk-takers. It sums up the spirit of the entire course—bold, challenging, and fair.

The clubhouse adds to the experience, with big windows overlooking the 9th and 18th holes. It's a great place to watch friends finish their rounds or take in the coastal scenery.

Afterwards, celebrate your golfing at any of the area's top eateries like Inlet View Bar & Grill, El Coqui's Restaurant & Bar, or the Purple Onion Cafe.

River's Edge Golf Club is a top pick for anyone planning a North Carolina beach trip. With a renowned designer, a coastal setting, and greens kept in superb condition, the course offers a day you'll remember.
