Huey's Midtown has been a staple of Memphis dining since its doors opened in 1970. Founded by local Memphian Allen Gary, he gave the restaurant his childhood nickname, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Over the years, it grew into a bar-focused, live music spot until 1976, when Thomas Boggs took over.

Under Boggs' leadership, Huey's became synonymous with superb burgers, excellent service, and family-friendly experiences. Today, it stands as one of Memphis's most celebrated dining spots.

Located minutes from iconic landmarks like Overton Park, the Memphis Zoo, and Sun Studio, Huey's Midtown is positioned for anyone exploring Memphis. Its proximity to these attractions means a meal is never far away!

Huey's Midtown's menu offers more than burgers, such as crowd-pleasing sandwiches, salads, kabobs, soups, and salads. You'll also discover a relaxed setting for live music and locations scattered about the area. Huey's also has a history of community support, with over five decades of service to the Memphis area.

Whether taking in the sights or enjoying local culture, the restaurant connects to the city's soul.

Vibe

While there are plenty of Huey's around Memphis, all exude the same character and look. The painted brick, green and white awnings, and classic signage blend with Midtown Memphis.

While the exterior is calm, cool, and collected, the interior is another story. Picture a mishmash of art, graffiti, sports memorabilia, and signage covering the walls, creating a whimsical space where you can cut loose.

Speaking of a playful vibe, patrons were allowed (and encouraged) to fling toothpicks with colorful frills into the brown acoustic ceiling tiles. Over time, the ceiling was littered with these wooden missiles. While these are long gone, you may spot the holes if you look closely.

Adding to this motif is the crutch stuck to the restaurant ceiling. The story behind this oddity is that a good friend of Boggs, Peggy Lichterman, had been on a crutch for months. When she recovered and before she heaved it into the Mississippi River, Thomas asked if he could have it. She obliged, and he stuck it over the hole in the ceiling. Since that fateful day, every location has included a ceiling hole and a crutch. The original is still at Huey's Midtown.

The atmosphere is warm, laid-back, and distinctly Memphis. Here, families, friends, and solo diners enjoy live music, cold beers, and tasty meals.

Huey's Midtown: Menu & Drinks

The World Famous Huey Burger is a crown jewel of the menu. This juicy handheld features 6 ounces of Certified Angus Beef prepared medium unless otherwise requested. It comes with crisp lettuce, fresh tomato, melted cheese, and a secret blend of seasonings. For an additional charge, add fries, tater tots, salads, and steamed veggies, to list a few.

Another specialty is the Bluff City Burger. The Angus patty is chargrilled and comes with crisp bacon, smoked cheddar, onion straws, BBQ sauce, shredded lettuce, and pickles. The smokiness, salty bacon, and sweetness will have your taste buds dancing!

As mentioned above, other options exist for those not craving a burger. A healthy example is the Salmons and Veggie Plate with a 6 oz grilled salmon with steamed squash, zucchini, baby carrots & broccoli.

Other standouts include the Fiesta Chicken Wrap, Grilled Chicken Pineapple Kabob, and the Thai Chicken Salad.

The Lemon Icebox Pie is a showstopper for dessert lovers with its zesty, tangy filling and buttery graham cracker crust. It's the perfect cool finish after listening to hot music on Beale Street.

Speaking of cooling down, the drinks at Huey's will do the job. Beer lovers will delight in the draft, bottled, and canned selections. The full bar ensures a cocktail will be in your hands in no time. The Tennessee Tea is a playful twist on the Long Island classic.

Huey's Midtown will satisfy your hunger and add to your Memphis experience. Its blend of Southern flavors, local music, and festive vibe make it a must-visit in Bluff City.
