The Lobbyist combines history, flavor, and innovation to make it an attractive downtown dining spot.

The eatery is on the ground floor of The Chisca on Main, once the Chisca Hotel. When it opened in 1913, it was the largest hotel in Memphis. Now, it is a repurposed apartment complex and home to The Lobbyist.

Leading the culinary charge at the restaurant is Chef Jimmy Gentry, who brings a philosophy of using locally sourced ingredients to craft globally inspired dishes.

Chef Gentry’s vision is evident in every dish, blending Southern traditions with international flair. The result is a bold and adventurous menu that is also comforting.

The atmosphere is eccentric yet approachable, with the vintage marquee setting the stage as it lights up Main Street. Inside, the mood is like the menu: historic yet with modern comforts. All these elements combine to create an upscale yet laid-back dining experience.

Its downtown location puts The Lobbyist steps away from iconic landmarks like Beale Street, the Mississippi River, and Tom Lee Park. And with the Orpheum Theatre within walking distance, it’s easy to have a delicious meal before a show.

When your Bluff City getaway needs an elevated dining experience, add The Lobbyist to your to-do list.

Vibe

The Chisca building is distinctive, with its classic brickwork and large windows, evoking a postcard from the past. The elegant marquee shadows the sidewalk, the glow from the halo-lit sign a beacon on the main thoroughfare.

Inside, the design shifts, combining historic elements with a contemporary industrial look. Exposed vaulted ceilings with ductwork provide the industrial elements. The modern light fixtures, tiled floor, and contemporary wooden tables add a modern touch. Accent walls with chic artwork spice up the decor, while sliding wooden barn doors add a down-home feel to the room.

The main dining room offers an intimate setting with cozy tables and faux walls dividing the open concept. The bar area is spacious and ideal for solo dining or couples seeking a more relaxed setting. When the weather suits, the outdoor patio provides a charming space to enjoy a meal under the stars.

The ambiance offers a blend of luxury and creativity, connecting you to the soul of the city.

The Lobbyist: Menu & Drinks

Chef Gentry designed the ala carte menu with the intention of diners sharing portions, adding to the enjoyment of dining together.

Begin your culinary journey with something tasty from the Shareables section of the menu. A standout is the curry-crusted yams with mustard seed and pepitos. The crunchy curry coating combined with the tender sweetness of the yams is a match made in heaven.

In Italian, orecchiette means “little ears,” and this pasta dish features braised beef with kabocha, miso seasoning, and Tarka. The Italian, Japanese, and Indian flavors and ingredients exemplify Chef Gentry’s international influences.

For seafood lovers, redfish is a must. This delicacy from the sea comes with rice noodles, Tom Yum soup, and fresh basil. It’s the fusion of a Southern staple with Thai flavors, making it a delight for the palate.

After a day exploring music landmarks like the Blues Hall of Fame and the Memphis Rock ‘n Soul Museum, refuel with the ribeye for two. This choice cut is dry-aged, cooked to your liking, and tender and juicy. Add a pick from the Produce section, like the Brussels sprouts, and you have a prize-winning combo.

The drink menu is equally impressive, featuring expertly crafted cocktails and an outstanding wine list. A notable libation is the 2+2=5 with Monkey Shoulder Scotch, yellow chartreuse, King’s Ginger liqueur, Laphroaig Scotch, and fresh lemon.

Dining at The Lobbyist is more than just a meal; it’s an experience that enhances any Memphis getaway. The innovative menu, paired with the restaurant’s stylish ambiance and prime location, makes it a must-visit.
