About
No trip to Memphis would be complete without a pilgrimage to the mecca of music history that is Graceland. This was the iconic home of Elvis Presley, the King of Rock 'n' Roll. Fit for a King, Graceland was the Palace, and the Kingdom spread across 13.8 lush acres just a 15-minute drive from downtown.
Located on Elvis Presley Boulevard, Graceland is a short drive from historic music landmarks, including Beale Street, as well as Sun Studio, where Elvis made his first recordings.
It’s amazing to think that Elvis bought the now widely popular home and grounds in 1957 when he was just 22. Curiously, the infamous name was already in place as the grounds were named after a female relative of the family who originally built the mansion. Constructed in 1939, Graceland was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
Since opening to the public in 1982, Graceland has hosted more than 20 million visitors from across the country and the world. Today, Graceland and the “Elvis Presley’s Memphis” complex across the street welcome half a million visitors annually. There’s no doubt in the land of rock ‘n roll, this is still the house that rocks!
After a day in this rock kingdom, trade your Elvis stories at The Beauty Shop, just a short drive away in the Cooper-Young area. Transformed from a hair salon once frequented by Priscilla Presley, you can enjoy the retro dining vibes surrounded by Elvis-era décor. Get even more musically inspired with a stop at the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum.
