About
Sitting off Highway 1 overlooking the Noyo River is a restaurant offering impressive views, fresh seafood, and ice-cold beer. Noyo River Grill is a family-run spot serving delicious lunches and dinners in its laid-back setting.
In 2018, the Medina family, with deep roots in Fort Bragg, opened the restaurant in a small harbor-front spot. In 2023, the family made a big move to the former Cliff House location, better known for its incredible views than its square footage. After renovating the space, they reopened Noyo River Grill with three times the space of their former location.
Running the restaurant is a team, or shall we say, family effort. Guillermo is the chef, creating dishes inspired by what's fresh and local. Gabriel handles the day-to-day, while Eric manages the general operations. Even the parents help out, especially Dad, who bakes bread and makes fresh pasta.
Convenient to some of Mendocino County's top attractions, it's easy to plan a meal around your sightseeing. Nearby is Noyo Headlands Park and Glass Beach, offering outdoor adventures for young and old alike. You could also schedule a celebratory dinner after riding the rails on The Skunk Train.
With its river views, fresh cuisine, and homey vibe, Noyo River Grill feels more like dining in the Medina's home than a restaurant!
Vibe
The building overlooks both the Noyo River mouth and the open Pacific, offering a jaw-dropping view. Equally appealing is that the renovated Cliff House is just that, a house! The facade showcases Northern California design and color motifs, while the earthtone awning offers protection from the elements as you head for the entrance.
Inside, the Cali-influence continues with floor-to-ceiling windows, an open ceiling with wood beams, and wood trim here and there. Tables are spaced with privacy in mind, and virtually every seat offers a dynamic view of the outdoors. The open and calm setting is perfect for catching up with friends or celebrating a special night out.
The atmosphere is dressy enough for anniversaries but casual after a day at the beach. Live music is a standard feature, adding another dynamic to the vibe.
Seating options include the open dining area, the bar, and the outdoor deck for al fresco dining.
No matter where you sit, Noyo River Grill has the kind of ambiance that defines a superb Northern California meal.
Noyo River Grill: Menu & Drinks
The appetizers are impressive and could be combined to create a tapas-like dining experience. Standouts include ceviche with prawns, the seared scallops, and the oysters. The wontons feature fresh shrimp with cream cheese, green onions, and ginger.
Moving to the main course, the NRG Cioppino is a winner. This hearty fisherman's stew is full of shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams, and fish, all simmered in a flavorful, well-seasoned broth.
Another hit is the Prawn Scampi. This dish features Wild Gulf shrimp sauteed in garlic, lemon, and parsley. Accompanying this comfort meal are a vegetable medley and creamy mashed potatoes.
For a classic choice, the Fish and Chips is always popular, especially when made with local rockfish. The coating is light and crisp, resulting in a moist, flaky meal.
Fans of "land food" have options like the Noyo Burger, Creamy Garlic Chicken, Crispy Duck Breast, and a variety of steaks. In essence, there's something for everyone at Noyo River Grill.
Equally impressive is the drink menu. Signature cocktails, craft beer, and wines pair with the menu. The Lemon Drop Martini stands out with its sweet, tart, and refreshing finish. If you love margaritas, this is the place for you! You'll find creative takes on this classic, ranging from a jalapeno to a blackberry marg.
With a menu highlighting the best of NorCal, thoughtful hospitality, and a homey vibe with water views, Noyo River Grill will enhance your Mendocino Coast vacation.
