About

Combining ocean-view dining, nightly jazz performances, and French-inspired fare, The Ledford House promises an extraordinary dining experience.

Set atop the Albion bluffs and close to Van Damme State Park, the restaurant is easy to spot for its distinctive coastal architecture. Even at first glance, the facade has a way of putting guests at ease, inviting all to enjoy the laid-back rhythm of life at the water's edge.

Our story centers on Tony and Lisa Geer, who began their restaurant journey in the 1970s in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. After ten years of operating Morning Thunder Cafe, they sold it in 1986 and moved to the Mendocino Coast to take over The Ledford House Restaurant. And the rest, as they say, is history.

For decades, Tony Geer, a self-taught chef, was the heart of the kitchen, devoted to top-quality ingredients and a menu shaped by care and expertise. Lisa Geer, also a chef, made guests feel welcome at the front of the house and introduced live jazz each night. Their combined effort and passion made this eatery a Northern California hotspot.

The Ledford House endures as a community mainstay, its reputation built on genuine service and memorable meals. Make a reservation and visit to discover for yourself why this restaurant is a Mendocino Coast staple.

Vibe

The single-story building blends with the Mendocino coastline, with its stained wood siding and ocean-facing windows. In many ways, it resembles a private coastal home rather than a commercial dining spot.

Inside, the décor fuses rustic California charm with French Provincial nuances. Exposed timber beams and dark wood make the rooms feel cozy, while European artwork adds a classical touch.

Adding to this homey vibe are the tables draped in white linens. The contrast between elegance and a homey atmosphere sets the space apart from other venues.

Tucked along one wall is a carpeted, low stage with a baby grand piano. Here, jazz trios set the tone in the evenings, making this the ideal spot to unwind after a day exploring Mendocino Headlands State Park.

These elements unite as a tour de force, offering a space suitable for any occasion.

The Ledford House: Menu & Drinks

The cuisine is a flavorful journey through Southern France and the freshness of Mendocino produce. With its seasonal approach and à la carte design, you can create a dinner tailor-made to your liking.

Kickstart your dining adventure with the Pacific Oysters on the Half Shell. These local delicacies come with a tomato-horseradish mignonette that enhances their flavors and textures. Also noteworthy is the Soup de Poisson, showcasing a puree of roasted fish with Gruyere cheese and aioli.

The cheese plate with quince membrillo and crostini is a standout, as is the Escargot baked with garlic, pastis butter, parsley, and lemon. A vegetarian marvel is the roast beet with Humboldt Fog goat cheese, hazelnuts, and arugula salad!

Moving on to the larger portions, the duck breast is a superb choice. The duck is seared with a huckleberry Zinfandel sauce that pairs perfectly with the meat. The result is a tender, juicy entree.

The Steak au Poivre features a filet mignon seasoned with black peppercorns, cooked to your liking. A Bleu Cheese Port sauce complements the peppery spices and brings just the right balance of savory, sweet, and heat.

The Bourride is a fish stew featuring a bountiful selection of locally sourced seafood and saffron. The earthy, subtle sweetness of the saffron is enhanced with orange and fennel, making this chowder a delight for the palate.

Regarding drinks, the wine list features Anderson Valley varietals, particularly Pinot Noir and aromatic whites. For those interested in cocktails, the classic martini is a favorite. It's the ideal choice when listening to the jazz trio.

Dining at The Ledford House will be a highlight of any Mendocino trip, blending the best of Northern California with a dash of French-inspired comfort.
