Are you looking to get a little fishing in on your vacation? There’s a fishing pier at Myrtle Beach State Park where you can fish and crab.
You’ll find various species like flounder, king mackerel, whiting, trout, spots, Spanish mackerel, drum, and blues. And the good news is you won’t need a fishing license to fish off the pier!
Myrtle Beach State Park is home to many animals, too! Depending on when you visit, you might see nesting loggerhead sea turtles, bald eagles, least terns, and various neotropical migrant birds.
If you’re more interested in flora than fauna, Myrtle Beach State Park’s maritime forest is a Heritage Trust site! You’ll discover live oak and southern magnolias while strolling the trails and the beautiful white atamasco-lily.
Hiking toward the ocean, you’ll come across sea dunes and sea oats. The maritime grassland really shines in the fall months!
The park opens daily at 6 am, and the office opens at 9 am. The park closes based on season, so check the website for updated hours! Maps are available online or at the park office.

Are you looking to camp out under the stars while in Myrtle Beach? There’s plenty of space for you and your tent at the park!
There are over 250 hookups for your RV and over 30 tent spots! Six cabins are available if you want a rustic experience without sleeping on the ground. And there’s also complimentary wifi, so you won’t have to disconnect completely! Check the website to make reservations.
When it’s time to take a break for lunch, there are several picnic areas and picnic shelters throughout the park. Children will love the playgrounds at the picnic area near the beach and campgrounds.

Getting There
From downtown Myrtle Beach, drive south on US-17 BUS for roughly four miles.
When you see the sign, turn left into Myrtle Beach State Park at 4401 S Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC 29575.

- Did you forget your fishing rod? You can rent one at the pier gift shop for $25/day! It requires a $25 deposit, which is refunded when you return the rod.
- You’ll need a saltwater fishing license to fish from the shore. They’re available online or at bait shops and other major retailers throughout the state.
