Shopping in the Old Port shopping district has long been a favorite thing for visitors to do! There is something to be found for everyone - from gifts to clothing and leather goods. The main shopping area is about 4 blocks long and you will also find several bars and restaurants in this area.

As you enter the port, you will find shops on both sides of the street and the vendors will make you very welcome to enter their shops. If you are looking for a tee shirt from Rocky Point, you will find them in the port shopping area. There are stores that also carry beautiful hand embroidered tops and dresses as well as the traditional Mexican wedding shirts for the men. Martin is one of the largest vendors in the Old Port and has several different shops each featuring different things. You can spend a whole day shopping and eating or just sitting and watching the water and boats go by. Most of the stores are open for 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Sunday.

Restaurants and Bars in Old Port

In the Old Port you will find the following bars and restaurants: Sr. Amigos, Boo Bar, Shark Bite, Tequila Bar, Margarita Mermaid, Iguana Banana, Mary’s, Lucky’s Cantina, Leo’s Bar, Friendly Dolphin, MTZ and Kilimbo. One block up from the main street, you will find Puerto Viejo Coffee Roasters, Thrifty Ice Cream and the ever popular Blue Marlin.

There are also several pharmacies in the shopping area. If you are looking for some great fresh baked breads and sweets, check out Conejo Bakery. You'll find it next to Puerto Viejo on Zaragoza y 1 de Junio. Puerto Viejo Coffee roasters opens at 8 and closes at 10 pm, so you can have your coffee whenever you need a pick-me-up.

Parking

If you plan to spend the day here, it is best to park in a lot. Alternatively, you can park in a space with a meter, but it would be more expensive over time. It is secure and less expensive for extended time frames. They are all within a half block of the main shopping area so it is very convenient. Do not offer to pay someone to put money in your meter if you choose that route. The parking lots charge from $3 USD to $5 USD, but it is well worth it.

Notable Shops

One of the best places to buy glassware and dishes from the south of Mexico is Mercedes Rusticos which is located on Calle 35 Alcantar - across from the Friendly Dolphin as you are leaving the port. It is one of the oldest gift shops in Puerto Peñasco and has a huge stock of items. She carries one of the largest collections of Catrinas in Rocky Point. A Catrina is a porcelain figurine that is like a skeleton with brightly painted dress and hats and they are very collectable. Here, you can find a vast selection of Talavera pottery and colorful glassware as well as linens, furniture, pottery, metal figurines, leather purses and more. The store is open Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm and on Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm.

When booking your next trip to Rocky Point, consider staying near Old Port. Then, you can get up and have your coffee next to the Sea of Cortez. There is the Dream weaver B & B and well as one of the oldest hotels called Vina del Mar. Here you will find the charming little rock hotel called La Roca that Al Capone use to stay at. Rumor has it that it has tunnels running under it that was used during prohibition days. By staying in the port, you can walk everywhere and have a great time. The conveniences are never-ending!
