About

The Seashell Museum can now be found at CEDO Intercultural near the whale bone in Las Conchas. This is a private and careful curated collection of seashells by Naomi Black, a Rocky Point local.

History & Accomplishments

In the summer of 2017, Russ and Naomi Black decided to build the Seashell Museum next to Naomi's shop called Sea Debris which opened in January of 2018. In 2025, Naomi teamed up with the Intercultural Center for Desert and Ocean Studies (CEDO Intercultural), to move the SeaShell museum to Las Conchas. Since its initial opening, the museum has been voted the #1 museum to visit in the State of Sonora by Trip Advisor. It has received over 3,500 visitors from Australia, Belarus, Canada, Chile, Germany, Philippines, Mexico (10 states), & the United Sates (25 states). This is a museum that the whole family can enjoy. Additionally, there is no admission charge to enter.

While visiting the SeaShell Museum @ CEDO, be sure to stop in the Gift Shop to look for a 32 page coloring book for sale named “A Special Seashell Sunday”, created by Naomi. With illustrations by Tina Green, it's very educational and engaging for children. The cost is $15.00 USD and shipping is free in the US. Your children will love this!

What's at the Seashell Museum?

At the museum you will find a collection of seashells that are native to the Sea of Cortez, found around the Puerto Peñasco area. They are all labeled with names and information on the size and origin.

There is a 24” x 36” Seashell Identifier Poster by Naomi in collaboration with In Focus Photography (Manny Sanchez) for sale. It provides information on all the local shells! It's available in the museum or on the website for $25.00 USD. This is a great thing to buy to remember your trip to Rocky Point and look for the various shells when you walk along the beach.

Hours of Operation

This SeaShell Museum, now located at CEDO, is open to the public Monday - Saturday per CEDO business hours 10 a.m. - about 3 p.m. While at CEDO, be sure to ask about their CEDO Xperiences for outdoor activities to further explore the surrounding desert and sea!
