About

One dining destination that will please everyone in your group is Food Hall Bottling. How can we be so confident? Easy. There are five different restaurants in this once-industrial building.

Located in the Pearl District, this dining hotspot is the perfect stop while strolling the River Walk. It can trace its roots back to the bottling department of the Pearl Brewery, founded in 1886. For decades, much of the region's beer was bottled here, until 2001, when the brewery shut down.

Thankfully, the site's journey didn't stop there. In 2004, a fire swept through the original building, destroying it. While devastating, the fire sparked the community's passion to keep history alive. Workers managed to save the old stone nameplates and cornerstones, which inspired the revitalization project.

Today, Food Hall Bottling keeps the Pearl tradition alive in a new way. Instead of bottling beer, it combines five food-court-like restaurants.

Visit on your San Anton vacation to savor the city's spirit, both old and new.

Vibe

From blocks away, the towering, red-brick "Pearl" smokestack marks the Pearl District. As you approach, the modern, three-dimensional "Food Hall" signage on the roof guides you to your destination.

The two-story brick facade, reconstructed to look vintage, gives an industrial feel to the neighborhood. Large, warehouse-style windows light up the space, and the covered patio offers al fresco dining.

Inside, a blend of old and new features exposed brick walls, sealed concrete floors, and contemporary accents. The exposed, vaulted ceiling features wood beams and paneling, while suspended ferns add a touch of natural green to the room.

The walk-up counters for the restaurants line one wall, sporting contemporary signage and lit menus.

The spacious dining area features long wooden tables with white vintage-style chairs. There's plenty of room for large groups or sitting apart for a more intimate setting.

Outside, you'll find bistro tables and picnic spots, some under the covered patio and others with umbrellas. These are the most popular dining spots because they connect you to the unique atmosphere that makes up the Pearl District.

The atmosphere is unlike any other San Anton restaurant, making it a star attraction on your Lone Star getaway.

Food Hall Bottling: Menu & Drinks

With five restaurants to choose from, we can't list all the standouts of each. Instead, we'll offer a "30,000-foot" overview.

At the time of this article, the following eateries are at Food Hall Bottling:

  • Howdy Child
  • Henbit
  • Freight Fried Chicken
  • Park Bar
  • Wonderslice

Howdy Child is a casual delicatessen with fresh Central Texas-style BBQ on the weekends. All meats are locally sourced and smoked in-house. Standouts include its award-winning pastrami sandwiches, such as the Reuben, featuring ⅓ lb of mouthwatering pastrami. The weekend BBQ offers various plate options to satisfy any appetite.

Henbit is your go-to for smashburgers! You can select from a single, double, or triple patty, or a "veggie" chicken sandwich. The sides are impressive, featuring crispy sweet potatoes with Chiltepin Aioli or garlic/rosemary fries.

Freight Fried Chicken uses a recipe popularized by Waiter Carriers during the post-emancipation period. These Black women sold fried chicken to travelers passing through Gordonsville, VA. Their food became so popular that folks would alter their routes to try some! From baskets to family-packs, and tasty sides, one bite and you'll know it's the Real McCoy!

Park Bar features Texas brews and wines, along with creative cocktails. Whether you grab a cold one to replenish after exploring the Briscoe Western Art Museum or pair it with your meal, Park Bar has a beverage that will satisfy.

Wonderslice features classic pizzas like pepperoni and artisan, as well as build-your-own pies, and a variety of hot subs and refreshing salads.
