About
While its name can be a tongue-twister, Schlitterbahn Waterpark is an outdoor attraction offering oodles of fun on your Lone Star getaway. From kid-friendly pools to adrenaline-pumping slides, there's something for everyone at this waterpark.
Our story begins in 1979 when the Henry family envisioned a unique water resort. Schlitterbahn, which means "slippery road" in German, began with four waterslides. Using the surrounding Texas Hill Country became a signature element of the park's design.
Also significant was the use of the Comal River, making the theme park eco-friendly. They designed a hydro system that circulated river water through the attractions before returning.
The park's success led to significant expansion, and in 1992, the Surfenberg section opened. Featuring the Boogie Bahn, the world's first inland surf attraction. Two years later, Dragon Blaster, an innovative uphill water coaster, opened. The Blastenhoff section opened in 1996, home to the Master Blaster, an award-winning uphill water coaster, and the Torrent, the world's first wave river. In 2011, The Falls section of the park opened, setting a record as the world's longest tubing river.
With its New Braunfels location, it's easy to plan a day filled with sightseeing. For example, start your day at Canyon Lake or the Gruene Historic District, then enjoy a fun-filled water adventure at Schlitterbahn Waterpark. With so much to see and do, the possibilities are endless!
In 2014, Schlitterbahn Waterpark merged with Six Flags. But this acquisition didn't daunt or dampen the legacy built by the Henry family. Instead, it promises to enhance further exceptional water-based entertainment that will always shine.
Schlitterbahn Waterpark: Fun Facts & Cool Features
One cool feature, both literally and figuratively, is the original section using water from the spring-fed river. This engineering feat provides a constant flow of refreshing, 72-degree water, creating an authentic and natural atmosphere.
Another refreshing feature is that Schlitterbahn is set amongst a hundred-year-old cypress trees. Such natural shade and beauty are rare for a waterpark! It also keeps guests refreshed and provides breaks from exposure to the sun.
A fun engineering fact is that Schlitterbahn Waterpark created the first uphill water coaster. This ride propels guests uphill using powerful water jets, changing the landscape of waterpark attractions.
The Master Blaster water coaster has received numerous awards and remains a blueprint for similar rides worldwide.
Another unique aspect is the park's "Transportainment" system. This network of interconnected rivers allows you to float on a tube from one ride to another. It turns the simple act of getting around the park into a relaxing, refreshing, and continuous attraction.
The Falls, a 3,600-foot-long river, is a prime example of this concept, offering an endless float with rapids, tube chutes, and a conveyor belt lift hill.
When it comes to the children's attractions, you'll find a variety to choose from. Fur-Bidden Forest has three waterslides, over 70 interactive water features, and much more!
And believe it or not, we've only just touched on a few of the many extraordinary rides!
When your crew gets thirsty or hungry, there are 26 dining options to choose from. Additionally, you're never far from a delicious meal in New Braunfels, like fresh catfish at Clear Springs Restaurant.
A trip to Schlitterbahn Waterpark is a must on your San Antonio vacation. It combines the excitement of an amusement park with the relaxation of a riverside retreat. The park's thoughtful design, groundbreaking attractions, and beautiful natural setting make it a standout destination.
