Appalachia Kitchen offers the most elegant dining experience on the mountain! Dinner here includes a candle-lit table, high-quality wine, and a hand-crafted meal.
From the outside, you would have no idea how spacious the restaurant actually is. There are dozens of dining tables, a few of which are against large windows. If you're lucky enough to snag one of these tables during the winter, you're going to get magical views of snow falling and people enjoying the mountain! There is also a cozy fireplace that is always going during the winter. The ambiance of the restaurant is moody and high-end. Though, the dress code is pretty casual.
Reservations here are highly recommended, especially during weekends and peak times. This includes holidays and 3-day weekends. If you are unable to get a reservation or table, try going upstairs to Tuque's. Many of the items on the entree menu are the same!
Getting There
Tuque's, Appalachia Kitchen, and the Pizza Slice are in the same plaza next to the Powder Monkey Townhomes and Corduroy Inn. All three restaurants are privately owned. Appalachia Kitchen and Tuque's share many parts of their menus, as they are under the same ownership. However, the atmosphere in these restaurants are quite different. Appalachia Kitchen offers a more quiet, elegant setting while Tuque's has a more exciting, bar environment.
Enter Appalachia Kitchen through the front doors of the plaza, down the walkway. Alternatively, you can enter through the back of the plaza. The stairs will take you into Tuque's. From there, you will just need to walk down the stairs to Appalachia Kitchen. Parking in this area may be a little tricky because the plaza is between a couple resorts which have guest-only parking. You can park in the Village parking and walk over or take the bus here - this is a very convenient option since it stops off right in front of the plaza.
Appalachia Kitchen Menu
Appalachia Kitchen (and their sister restaurants) prides itself on its farm-to-table cuisine. Chef Scott MacGregor runs the kitchen here. Appalachia also prides themselves on a modern, fresh menu and large variety of drinks. All their meats plus much of their produce is sourced from Appalachian farms.
North Carolina Tuna Tartar
You can't really go wrong with any of the starters, but the North Carolina Tuna Tartar is superb! This dish can be compared to a fresh tuna ceviche. The cubed tuna is mixed with avocado, jalapeno, and lime. Talk about tasty and refreshing!
Rainbow Trout
The Rainbow Trout is one one of the most popular entrees on the menu. Cooked with brown butter - it's plated with toasted almonds, wild rice pilaf, and fresh vegetables of the day. Go with this for a healthier dinner choice!
Pan Roasted Joyce Farms Chicken
As the only chicken entree on the menu, you can bet they've perfected this dish! It comes with butternut squash risotto, pea shoots, and mustard chicken jus.
