About
The Georgia Sea Grill first opened in 1997 in the lively Pier Village Market. While it could only seat 34 diners, it earned a strong reputation for its flavorful dishes and warm Southern hospitality.
Fast forward to 2014, when local restaurateur Zack Gowen purchased it. His first decision was to move a short distance down Mallery Street to a larger location. The facility could accommodate 150 guests in a more expansive dining experience. Aside from the main dining room, he added a wine bar and lounge, while maintaining the welcoming feel that patrons loved.
Next, he emphasized locally sourced ingredients, like fruits, vegetables, and herbs from its Potlikker farm. Meats were also from nearby farms, while farm-raised catfish is from Satilla Ponds, which it also owns.
With the success of Georgia Sea Grill, Zack formed The Georgia Sea Grill Collective as an umbrella for his other culinary ventures. You'll discover his influence at nearby sister restaurants like The Nest and Three Little Birds-Fly In, Fly Out, which is next door.
All three of these eateries are within walking distance of some of St. Simons Island's top attractions. Such convenience makes it easy to plan a visit to St. Simons Island Pier or East Beach, followed by a meal.
When your Golden Isles vacation requires chef-centric fare in a relaxing atmosphere, make a reservation at Georgia Sea Grill.
Vibe
This hotspot resembles something on the Greek Islands—the white facade sports wood shutters, flower boxes, and a sign. The vivid blue awning pops against the white backdrop, a portent of the delicious flavors awaiting within.
Once inside, the décor shifts to that of a timeless inn. Picture elegant wood beams and accents, along with the occasional exposed brick wall. The lighting is warm, not overpowering, adding intimacy to the rooms.
The main dining room features tables with white linens, formal dining room chairs, and dinner service. The baby grand piano adds another level of sophistication, with music flitting through the spaces like doves.
The lounge incorporates similar wood themes without the white linens, making for a more relaxed setting.
Best of all, with so many dining areas, each with its own vibe, this eatery will suit both special occasions and fun get-togethers.
Georgia Sea Grill: Menu & Drinks
Kickstart your epicurean adventure with an appetizer like fried pimento cheese balls with Tabasco syrup or Low Country crab soup. Other notable mentions include calamari dusted with a pecan-Parmesan blend, then deep fried, and covered with a Cajun aioli. All of the starters offer a rich, unique, and satisfying taste of the Golden Isles.
The shrimp and grits put a spicy twist on a Southern staple. Locally sourced prawns simmer in a lasso-and-tomato-based gravy, then are slathered atop local grits, making for a Cajun comfort meal with pizzazz.
For the ultimate seafood entree, order the catch of the day and choose one of the three preparations.
- Cajun Spiced: includes Andouille and crawfish etouffee over Charleston Gold Rice.
- Bronzed: features Hoppin' John (rice and black beans), tomato cream, and pickled okra.
- Pan-Roasted: showcases sweet potatoes, butternut squash, corn, grape tomatoes, wilted spinach, and red pepper coulis.
Fare from the farm will satisfy steak and chicken lovers. A standout is the Sweet Tea-Brined Pork Chop, featuring a locally sourced chop. The juicy, flavorful chop comes with roasted sweet potatoes, collard greens, and a cider-vinegar reduction.
The First Call menu offers fantastic tapas that make sharing during Happy Hour tasty and enjoyable. You'll also find drink specials to enhance this magical time of day.
Speaking of beverages, the beer and cocktail options will satisfy and pair with any of the entrees. But it's the wine list that shines, with multiple options by the glass or bottle to satisfy any palate.
A meal at Georgia Sea Grill anchors any Golden Isles trip, combining fresh ingredients, artisanal cuisine, and a timeless atmosphere.
