The unique, otherworldly building is one thing to behold, but it's the artwork inside that's the real treasure. Here, the world's largest collection of Salvador Dalí's works outside Europe is open to the public.
The journey of this collection began back in 1942 when Ohio residents A. Reynolds and Eleanor Morse first encountered Dalí's work at an exhibit in Cleveland. When they purchased Daddy Longlegs of the Evening, Hope! it sparked a deep connection with Dalí and his wife, Gala.
Over the next forty years, the Morse family assembled an incredible collection spanning the artist's creative periods. At first, they displayed these treasures in their Ohio home. When their passion outgrew their residence, they found a home for the art in St. Petersburg.
The Dali museum opened in 1982, but as the years passed, both the size and reputation of the collection continued to grow. January 2011 marked the debut of the museum's new home along the St. Petersburg waterfront.

Within, a spiral staircase at the center draws inspiration from the double helix of DNA and Dalí's ongoing fascination with life's mysteries. The steps lead to over 2,400 works, including oil paintings, original drawings, book illustrations, artist's books, prints, sculpture, photos, manuscripts, and an archive of documents.
