About

The Home Town Donuts donut shop is quite the location. I cannot exaggerate the fact that these are some of the best donuts I have ever had. I will say that I am a bit of a donut snob, and this sweet spot did not disappoint.

The shop is located right off the highway in beautiful Johnson City, Texas. It’s right next door to El Agave Mexican Restaurant so you can’t miss it.

And while many people come for the donuts, and really who wouldn’t? They also have other options on the menu as well. It’s totally possible to get a nice, hearty breakfast here and then head off on your way. Not only do they offer breakfast sandwiches, but they have breakfast tacos, juice, specialty coffee drinks, and so much more.

The donut shop opened its doors in 2016, and since then it has become a local favorite destination for incredible treats and good service.

The shop is simple and yet very much a welcoming, comforting destination. It lacks the big, flashy signs but instead offers the best donuts you’ll find anywhere in the Texas Hill Country North area.

Vibe

The donut shop may be tiny, but it is mighty when it comes to all that it has to offer. This eclectically colored shop is a bright, smell-good destination that you will want to stop at numerous times.

It has a drive-thru too, which makes it that much easier to get the donuts you want and need when you’re on the go.

So if you are looking for a morning donut and coffee shop, there is no doubt this is the best option available whether you are local or just visiting for a bit.

Home Town Donuts: Menu & Drinks

When I visited this time, I ordered a coffee and a Cinnamon Old Fashioned Donut. It was mind-blowing, honestly. I got my order to go, but there is an area to sit down and enjoy your food while you get your day started or go on your way.

They offer other donuts as well, including chocolate, cake, sprinkles, and eclairs, along with jelly options, pinwheels, and apple fritters.

The location is also known for its kolaches, and they offer a bunch of options here, too. Some of these include a sausage and cheese option and the Jumbo Sausage, Cheese, and Jalapeno.

You can also order tacos (sausage, egg, and cheese are a great option) as well as biscuits and croissants. Everything on the menu is made fresh, which really makes this a great choice for those who want something special.

They offer a range of coffee options, but nothing too fancy or over the top. Americano, lattes, cappuccino, and hot chocolate are on the menu. You can also get an iced latte or coffee, but they also have a Vietnamese iced Coffee that looks fantastic (I have yet to try that one out).

Local Tips

  • The staff is super friendly, and I found that out firsthand when I asked about fun things to do in the area, and the very nice girl at the counter recommended a trip to the Science Mill.
  • Try out their Thai Tea, which is a red tea that has milk in it that you can then flavor with hazelnut, mocha, or vanilla.
  • The entire menu is super affordable and far more affordable than anything at those larger coffee shops and breakfast restaurants (and you will likely get a far bigger sandwich for breakfast when you buy here, too!)
  • They also offer Home Town Donuts milk tea bottles with various flavors (including a bright green, green tea) that are bottled and ready for you to take with you.
