Duluth has a picturesque green space overlooking Lake Superior with incredible scenery and a fascinating history. Welcome to Enger Park!

With panoramic views of the harbor and lake, it's easy to understand why Enger Park has been a popular recreation spot for over a century.

The land was originally purchased in the late 1800s by Norwegian immigrant Samuel Snively, who later gifted it to Duluth as a public park.

Over the years, various facilities were added, including picnic areas, hiking trails, and the centerpiece - Enger Tower.

The five-story tower was built in memory of Bert Enger, another Norwegian settler in Duluth. Enger Tower was constructed in 1939 using local blue stone and rises 80 feet. Visitors get a 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape when perched on the top observation deck. On a clear day, you can see for miles out over Lake Superior!

In addition to the iconic tower, Enger Park contains beautiful botanical gardens with various flowers, shrubs, and trees.

There are also two small ponds, a playground, and miles of peaceful wooded trails perfect for taking in the natural scenery.

Enger Park: Fun Facts & Cool Features

Perhaps the biggest draw to the park is the Enger Tower. The blue stone exterior and turret-like observation deck make it look like a castle from long ago.

A cool feature is that the tower was designed by a young local bricklayer named Jeno Paulucci. He was only 21 when he won the design competition for Enger Tower. Later, Paulucci would found the famous Jeno's Pizza company!

Another cool feature of the park is the bronze statue of Bert Enger near the tower. Enger helped establish the community of Proctor, so the figurine depicts him holding building plans as a nod to his legacy.
